There are approximately 450-500 pigs at the Swine Unit. The Unit maintains three major breeds, Yorkshire, Hampshire, and Duroc. Their feed varies depending on the age of the individual pig. Most feeds contain: ground corn, soybean meal, vitamins, minerals, flavors, and fat. The Swine at this farm go through 8 different diets if they remain here their whole life.

The pigs are raised on concrete because it is a healthier environment for the pigs. Their pens are washed every day, which aids in their protection from soil born internal parasites. The pigs are raised for many different purposes. Some are market pigs, some are used for breeding stock, and others are sold for 4-H and F.F.A. projects.
