Consistent with the mission statement of the Farm Laboratory Strategic Plan, the orchard supports the Department of Plant Science's curriculum, student projects, pomological area. The orchard is a valuable resource for the practical application of course information for students in various Plant and Plant Protection courses. The utilization and operation of the orchard is consistent with and supports the needs of graduate students who collect fruit tree data as part of their masters thesis research. Agricultural companies which are included in the California Tree Fruit industry are invited to be involved in and support of the Fresno State Orchard. The orchard supports the Tree Fruit Industry by serving as an informational resource base for the evaluation of new stone fruit varieties. Goals Accomplished The California State University, Fresno Orchard and Support group (OASG) was active. The OASG, composed of ten members who represent UC Research and Extension, pesticide research and development, orchard management, fruit packing companies, fruit tree nurseries, orchard consultants, organized the following donations: (1) pesticides for orchard, vineyard and some agronomy crops, (2) labor for the planting, pruning, and painting of donated stone fruit trees, and the stone fruit trees provided for the USDA variety block, (3) six acres of Autumn Flame peach trees on Nemaguard rootstock, (4) eight acres of Betty Ann plum trees on Nemaguard. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
