Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Technology
Master of Arts Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction Emphasis
The Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Technology (CTET) at
California State University, Fresno offers a 30-unit Master of Arts Degree in
Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction. Within the Curriculum
and Instruction emphasis, students can choose a specific area of focus or design
their own program. Currently there are four areas of focus: Accomplished
Teaching, Enhanced Technology, Mathematics Education and Science Education. In
addition an emphasis in Agricultural Education can now be designed by a
candidate through the "design your own program" option.
The focus in Accomplished Teaching is designed to develop classroom
leadership. The coursework emphasizes reflective teaching, assessment to
inform instruction, and professional collaboration. The courses within this
area of focus are aligned with propositions of the National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) and the California Standards for the
Teaching Profession (CSTP) and are recommended for teachers as they prepare
for National Board Certification.
The focus in Educational Technology is designed to develop the
knowledge and skills essential for technology-related leadership in
educational settings. With additional coursework candidates may earn a
Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Technology with the masters
degree. (The Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Technology is
available without a masters degree.)
The two focus areas in Mathematics Education and Science
Education are designed to develop leadership in those teaching areas.
A focus in Agricultural Education may be achieved through the
"design your own program" option. The focus in Agricultural
Education is designed to develop leadership in agricultural education. An
emphasis is placed on understanding the teaching and learning of agricultural
education through an exploration of current research and trends in
agricultural education.
Courses are offered primarily in the evening. Some classes are offered on
Friday and/or Saturdays. Both on-campus and off-campus classes are available.
