The department faculty members are highly qualified professionals with
advanced degrees from universities across the nation. They bring practical
insights and experiences to the classroom through local and national
professional activities, owning and directing child development centers,
operating counseling centers, consulting, serving on advisory boards, and
conducting research. Students find departmental faculty vitally helpful in
guiding them through their academic experience as well as helping them to pursue
career goals.
Dr. Richard D. Berrett is a professor in the Child and Family Sciences area. He received his Ph. D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Florida State University and has been a professor of Child and Family Studies in the department since 1969. Dr. Berrett is active in several community and professional organizations and currently is the host of "Strong Families" on the local P. B. S. station.
Dr. Carolyn Jackson is a professor in Family and Consumer Sciences area. She received her Ed. D. from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Dr. Jackson has taught at CSU, Fresno since 1983. Her research interest focuses on the area of antique textile conservation and care. In 1995 Dr. Jackson received the Governor's Historic Preservation Award for her work with the clothing collection at a local museum. She was the recipient of the Salgo-Noren Award for Teaching Excellence in the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in 1991 and the Provost Teaching Award of Excellence in 1995.
Dr. Marianne Jones
is Chair of the Child, Family and Consumer Science
Department. She is an associate professor in child development and coordinates
the Child Development Practitioner Option. She earned her Ed.D. in Educational
Leadership from the University of California, Davis/California State University,
Fresno Joint Doctoral Program. Her research interests include constructivism in
adult classrooms, authentic assessment using portfolios, and early care and
education workforce preparation. In the twenty years prior to coming to Fresno
State, Marianne taught in and directed private, public, and non-profit child
care centers, directed Central Valley Children’s Services Network, taught at the
community college and university levels, and worked as a child advocate at the
local, state, and national levels.
Alma Major is a lecturer in Child and Family sciences area. She received her M.A. in Education with Early Childhood emphasis in 1991. She has been involved in early childhood education since 1986 and directed private childcare centers in Coalinga and Fresno for 15 years. She was an adjunct faculty at Reedley College for 12 1/2 years and is presently a half-time lecture in child and family sciences and half-time assignment as the Assistant Director of Programs for Children with specific responsibilities for the Administration of the Campus Children’s Center at CSU, Fresno. She is active in various community organizations.
Gary A. Malone
is a lecturer in Child and Family sciences area.
He received his M. A. in Child and Family Counseling from the University of San
Francisco and has taught in the Department since 1992. Gary has made
numerous presentations regarding child and family health to various community
organizations including the Fresno County School Review Board, Fresno
County Court Services. He has appeared several times on the "0 to 5 in 30
Minutes!", a parent's information program on Valley Public Television.
Gary is past-president of the Fresno Chapter of the California Association of
Marriage and Family Therapists and is currently the Program Director for Kid's
turn of Fresno a workshop for Children and Parents going through separation or
divorce.
Dr. Katie Ramos
is an assistant professor in Child and Family
sciences area. She received her Ph. D. in Human Development and Family
Studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia. She was on the faculty of
the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine before teaching at
California State University, Fresno full-time starting in 2004. Dr. Ramos'
research interests are in child sleep, attachment, and the cultural context of
parenting.
Dr. Sean S. Seepersad,
is an assistant professor in Child and Family
Sciences area. He received a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL. See personal

Dr. Linda Lee is an assistant professor in Child and Family Sciences area. She received my Master's degree in Risk and Prevention from Harvard University and a Ph.D. degree in Psychological Studies of Education from University California of Los Angeles (UCLA). Prior to attending UCLA for her Ph.D. degree, she worked with traumatized infants and toddlers as a pair play therapist in Boston, an administrative director of a preschool in Los Angeles, and an Area Supervisor for a Head Start agency in Los Angeles. Dr. Lee's dissertation study involved looking at immigrant preschool children's friendships and popularity among peers in an ethnically diverse preschool. She enjoys working with and advocating for young children. In her own words, "I find teaching child development to college students even more rewarding. I can't wait to meet all of you and share with you my passion and knowledge in child development."
Dr. Lizhu Davis is an assistant professor in Fashion Merchandising area. Dr. Davis received her Ph.D. in Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies from the University of North Caroline at Greensboro. She was a visiting assistant professor of Fashion Merchandising in the College of Business at The University of Southern Mississippi (2006-2007). Her research focuses on the area of consumer behavior, specifically consumer perceived value (CPV) and consumers’ shopping experiences.
