Summary of Programs in the Department:

Child Development
Our three Child Development degree paths prepare students to work in early care and education settings, to enter Multiple Subject credential programs needed for teaching in elementary schools, to pursue careers serving child and families in community agencies, and to enter graduate school in areas of social welfare, counseling, college teaching, family health, and others.

Family Science
The Family Science program prepares students to work with families across the lifespan. Students completing the program earn provisional certification as Family Life Educators. We also prepare students to pursue graduate education in counseling, social work, and a variety of other fields, or work with families in community-based and public agencies.

Fashion Merchandising
Our Fashion Merchandising program prepares students for careers in the dynamic fashion industry. It focuses on post-production facets of the fashion industry, described by Stone (2007) as having “the right fashion-oriented merchandise at the right time, in the right place, in the right quantities, at the right prices, and with the right sales promotion for a specified target customer.”
