Small spills (less than 100 ml) |
| 1. |
Wear goggles, apron and gloves. |
| 2. |
Pour enough vermiculite on spill to soak up liquid. |
| 3. |
Use dust pan and brush to pick up vermiculite. |
| 4. |
Place vermiculite in spill waste container. |
| 5. |
Wipe area with paper towels and place in spill waste
container. |
| 6. |
Place spill waste container in fume hood and turn on
fume hood. |
| 7. |
Label spill waste container as to contents. |
| 8. |
Inform technician of spill. |

outside of the Digestion room (Rm 16). |

Large Spills (greater than 100 mls) |
| 1. |
Place signs and barriers to warn others of the spill.

| 2. |
Pour vermiculite around the perimeter of the spill. |
| 3. |
Put a chair infront of spill and tape a chemical spill
sign to it. Place a chair behind spill if needed and place sign on chair. |
| 4. |
Label the sign as to contents of spill. |
| 5. |
Lock the door and place a sign on the door warning of
spill. |
| 6. |
Label the sign as to contents of spill. |
| 7. |
Inform lab technician |
| 8. |
If the lab technician is not present, call police
