Thank you for your continued support |
December 2005
We had an exciting and successful year as a department and research center and would like to share some of the highlights with you. It’s also the time of year to announce the beginning of our 2006 Viticulture and Enology Associates Campaign. Last year we received contributions from former students, professional organizations, vineyards and wineries. On behalf of the faculty, staff and students, I want to thank these donors once again for their support that enabled us to do some things that would otherwise not have been possible. Some of those activities in 2005 included support for:
Ø Student Viticulture Club – provided transportation support for visiting a range of vineyard and winery locations in various grape growing regions with the focus on understanding traditional and emerging management practices.
Ø Student Enology Club – provided financial support for high quality glasses for tasting panels; repair and upgraded dishwasher.
Ø FFA Field Day – provided administrative support by helping with the tabulation during the contest and helped organize the event.
Ø Upgrade the irrigation system in our vineyards.
Ø California State University, Fresno Annual Friends and Alumni Reunion at ASEV June 2005 – provided financial support.
Ø Funding for graduate and undergraduate students to present information on their projects at local and national meetings.
o Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy as an Analytical Tool in Vineyards and Wineries – Oren Kaye
o Rapid Automated Analysis for Phenols During Wine Processing– Christopher Nelson
o Microbial, Chemical, and Sensorial Considerations for Managing High-Density Fermentations – Don Chaney
o Managing the Wine Laboratory – Tish Cooper and Christopher Nelson
Website Resource – We are encouraging our alumni and friends to use our website(s) as a way to stay in touch with us. Listings of our activities and events, as well as, many other resources are available at:

Your support is important and we continue to make progress in the areas of academics, research and outreach activities. However, the most important source of your support continues to be your valuable participation in events we sponsor. It is during these activities that we experience your participation and enthusiasm and help us realize the importance of our efforts.
Sincerely,
