Clubs and Alumni Organizations
Student ClubsThere are many opportunities for students to get involved in the Viticulture Club and/or the Enology Club at California State University, Fresno. The clubs share an office in the Viticulture and Enology Building on campus. Phone: 559 278-7151
About the Clubs While studying viticulture and enology at Fresno State, many students enhance their academic career by becoming involved in either one or both of our university's student organizations for those with an interest in the grape and wine industry. Link to Brochure (05): Organizations for Viticulture and Enology Students. ENOLOGY CLUB: Members of the Enology Club are interested in learning more about wine and wine production through educational forums, field trips to various winemaking facilities throughout the state, and attendance at professional meetings and conferences. Members of the Enology Club strive to enhance their learning by connecting with alumni and members of the wine industry who hold enology positions throughout the state, nation, and world. Annual social events include an Enology Banquet each spring, where students, alumni and friends come together with a common interest. Many upper division enology club members are also called upon to assist the Fresno State Winery to promote Fresno State wine and educate the public about our program at various community events. Many of our Enology Club members are also members of the Enology Society, an external group of individuals (21 years of age or older) with a common interest in wine. The Society conducts educational weekly wine tastings on various varietals. VITICULTURE CLUB: The Viticulture Club, one of the oldest clubs on the Fresno State campus, is also one of the most active clubs. In November each year, members host their Annual Fall Harvest Dinner, a popular event for alumni and friends designed to help raise funds for the new year's annual activities. Each year the Viticulture Club also participates in two major FFA statewide events -- the Vine Pruning Contest (February) and the Vine Judging Contest (April) held on the Fresno State campus. These events are a great way for high school and college students to meet our alumni, who support the club by participating as FFA Contest judges. From social events, including the annual Budbreak BBQ, to educational forums (with industry guest speakers), to educational field trips to various grape growing regions within our state, the Viticulture Club is hard at work increasing their viticultural knowledge while raising funds for their endowment fund, which supports several annual student scholarships. Viticulture and Enology Alumni Association Viticulture and enology alumni members are found throughout the state and world in prominent viticultural and wine related positions. In 2004, the Viticulture Alumni Club and Enology Alumni Association joined efforts to create a Viticulture and Enology Alumni Association. Through industry partnerships and attendance at events, our viticulture and enology alumni of this institution remain interested in the current programs and are expecially support of student events and activities. Together, the viticulture and enology alumni club host an annual wine tasting event held the first Sunday of each June called, "A Celebration of Wine" to raise funds for the Vincent E. Petrucci Library, a collection of materials available to the campus community and public - conveniently housed in the Fresno State Viticulture and Enology building on campus. History of the Clubs-- For years, the Viticulture Alumni Club was one of the most active alumni groups on the Fresno State campus. They remain actively involved in the viticulture and enology programs at this university. In 1982, they began the first annual "A Celebration of Wine" wine tasting. As a result, in 1996 the Viticulture Alumni established an endowment fund through the Fresno State Foundation that continues to support the Petrucci Library today. Over the years, the enology alumni have remained active in their support of the enology programs at this university. Working with the enology students, they hosted a wine tasting event for several years called "The Fresno Wine Experience" which raised funds for enology scholarships. Today, the Viticulture Alumni and Enology Alumni work together as one unified association to support the viticulture and enology programs at California State University, Fresno.
